Generally this is a really beautiful hotel, in a an old monastery and the atmosphere of the hotel is exceptional. We particularly liked the pool and the food (even though the latter was a bit pricey).

This is a memorable hotel in a great location overlooking the city of Guimaraes. The original monastic buildings have been sensitively restored to accommodate guests in comfortable rooms, with a bar, an excellent restaurant and a breakfast room. All this has been accomplished without violating the architectural integrity of the original structure. Beautiful cloisters, landscaped gardens, azulejo tiled terraces, and state rooms remain open to guests and they add to the authenticity and haunting ambience of this hotel. In addition, there is a large outside swimming pool with bar and several alfresco patios for relaxing and sunbathing. The outstanding environment and amenities are matched by the attentive, friendly and courteous service provided by the staff. This is in every respect a superlative hotel and we recommend it unreservedly.

The staff, position and ambience all superb and facilities good. Breakfast and dinner both very good indeed, but the dinner menu was a trifle limited. The gardens were a real treat. This hotel is as far from a Hilton/Marriott as you can get. Ancient buildings repurposed and dripping with character and interesting objects/ art. Very good pool/terrace. We've stayed in hundreds of hotels and just loved this one.

The hotel is a very impressive historic building set in peaceful surroundings with a fantastic view over Guimaraes. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and everything was very clean and well-presented. We stayed for three nights and although we had not intended to eat in the hotel restaurant every night, we were so happy with the meal on the first night that we ate there each evening. There are plenty of places to sit and relax in a very comfortable lounge with a bar, a quiet courtyard and in the gardens. The pool area is spotless and has a splendid view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a few minutes drive outside the centre of Guimaraes but we had a car so that was no problem. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

This property was amazing! What a unique hotel! It was so fun to drive up the windy, tiny road to the top of the hill to find an amazing building with lovely views. The hotel is stunning. It's like you're walking through a museum only you get to stay there. The architecture, paintings, and ceramic tiles were the background for leisurely strolls in the beautiful grounds. We had a fabulous dinner and drinks in the lounge and enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. The price was so reasonable. A shout out to the very friendly and very helpful staff!

A beautiful historic building, beautifully restored and furnished. It's up a steep hill on a narrow winding road. That makes it a little far from the historic center of Guimarães, but it also means the view is fantastic. We were near the gondola ride that went up to the Sanctuario de Penha, a landmark you can see for miles around.

the building is awesome and wonderful and the views fantastic. don't miss the wonderfully cool enclosed terrace with a gorgeous fountain. truly a unique hotel. the staff were extremely helpful and nice. Altogether a superb place to stay

The historical property was absolutely amazing. The staff was welcoming and friendly, the beds were comfortable and the rooms spacious. My family enjoyed walking the grounds and learning about the history of the monastery. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant downstairs were fantastic. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the hotel. Town was a short walk or easy Uber ride away. Our stay at Pousada Mosteiro de Guimarães was our favorite part of our Norte vacation.

The building is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds are lovely. The breakfast buffet is large and plentiful. We ordered room service and the quality of the meal (which can be questionable with room service) was very high, the food was hot and similar to a restaurant experience. We brought our dog and she was welcomed with a fun gift box. Lastly, their bartender makes a delicious old fashioned!
