This is a memorable hotel in a great location overlooking the city of Guimaraes. The original monastic buildings have been sensitively restored to accommodate guests in comfortable rooms, with a bar, an excellent restaurant and a breakfast room. All this has been accomplished without violating the architectural integrity of the original structure. Beautiful cloisters, landscaped gardens, azulejo tiled terraces, and state rooms remain open to guests and they add to the authenticity and haunting ambience of this hotel. In addition, there is a large outside swimming pool with bar and several alfresco patios for relaxing and sunbathing. The outstanding environment and amenities are matched by the attentive, friendly and courteous service provided by the staff. This is in every respect a superlative hotel and we recommend it unreservedly.

The hotel is a very impressive historic building set in peaceful surroundings with a fantastic view over Guimaraes. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and everything was very clean and well-presented. We stayed for three nights and although we had not intended to eat in the hotel restaurant every night, we were so happy with the meal on the first night that we ate there each evening. There are plenty of places to sit and relax in a very comfortable lounge with a bar, a quiet courtyard and in the gardens. The pool area is spotless and has a splendid view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a few minutes drive outside the centre of Guimaraes but we had a car so that was no problem. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

This property was amazing! What a unique hotel! It was so fun to drive up the windy, tiny road to the top of the hill to find an amazing building with lovely views. The hotel is stunning. It's like you're walking through a museum only you get to stay there. The architecture, paintings, and ceramic tiles were the background for leisurely strolls in the beautiful grounds. We had a fabulous dinner and drinks in the lounge and enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. The price was so reasonable. A shout out to the very friendly and very helpful staff!

It is a former monastery turned into a most exclusive hotel. Set with a historic church high above the city. Wonderfully beautiful. Our room although small was charming The bathroom was modern. The hallways and halls long , and wide , with high ceiling. The dining room was exquisite. The food and the service exceptional. The gardens and outdoor swimming pool added much to the hotel's charm . Stay here and be marveled.

What a place. For us Brits, staying here was a bit like experiencing life in a stately home. History oozed from its solid stonework, while the public rooms were of a scale and style of decor that evoked museum galleries. But it wasn't all Downton - facilities like aircon and WiFi were modern and efficient. Special shout out to the front desk staff, who were 100% charming and helpful. Bonus point: staying here does wonders for your daily step count.
